Lambda Literary Award-winning author TJ Klune's bestselling, breakout contemporary fantasy that's 1984 meets The Umbrella Academy with a pinch of Douglas Adams thrown in. (Gail Carriger) A magical island. A dangerous task. A burning secret. Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages. When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he's given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they're likely to bring about the end of days. But the children aren't the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn. An enchanting story, masterfully told, The House in the Cerulean Sea is about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place--and realizing that family is yours.

Ina Fabian a dat nota:
'We get trapped in our own little bubbles, and even though the world is a wide and mysterious place, our bubbles keep us safe from that. To our detriment. But it's so easy because there is something soothing about routine. Day in and day out, it's always the same. When we're shaken from that, when the bubble bursts, it can be hard to understand all that we've missed. We might even fear it.' I like my fantasy stories packed with action on the side :D This book had all the premises of an amazing fantasy story, but for me, it lacked some important ingredients. You should know that this one is mainly a character-driven story. Unfortunately, it isn't overall my cup of tea. Yes, this book has some amazing characters, it has magical children from different species. It definitely has 'Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children' vibes. But all those lengthy dialogues and endless conversations filled the chapters more than it should. By the end of the book, the conversations got me a bit bored. Although I did liked grumpy Linus and Lucy that was so well-crafted, I was expecting more from the magical system overall. Giving it had some magical elements in it, the story wasn't developed enough in that direction. It surprised me considering it had magical departments and a system that dictates how the world goes. With so little action in it, the book left me hungry for the ingredients I was expecting :D Overall, it was an ok read for me. Now I'm going to look for my reading sparks elsewhere 👀
