The Humor in Aging!

Autor Barbara Green-Withrow
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Many septuagenarians view old age as the end of life and retire to their rocking chairs and T.V.s. Not these crazy 70 year olds. They are enjoying their old age to the fullest. Journey with these septuagenarians as they laugh at the humor in being old -- you will enjoy and be surprised at some of their antics as you peek at their humorous lifestyle. Take for example the innocent truth of a child. 2 WHEN I FIRST REALIZED I WAS OLD I have always believed age was just a number, so I shoo shooed any articles that dictated slowing down after age sixty-five. I also ignored articles that extolled stop work and retire at 65, and laughed at articles that warned your sexual tendency slowly fades (hmm, not yet ). Articles that prophesied you gain weight and lose your figure, is a truism - but only if you stop being active. Therefore, for me all those early warnings I ignored. I disregarded age creeping up even though I no longer could prop my foot up on the bed or chair and bend over to polish my toenails - One day my darling, 7-year-old granddaughter came home from school excited because her teacher told the girls in the class they could become anything they wanted to become -- a doctor, engineer, or even the president of the United States Like any well-meaning grandmother, I proceeded to act as excited as my granddaughter did, and we jumped up and down and laughed for a few seconds. All of a sudden, my granddaughter stopped and with a quizzical frown looked up and asked, "Granny, why did you decide to become old, didn't you know you could be something else"? So much for age is just a number Or, the pain that occurs when young meets old 4 BEST MEDICINE IN THE WORLD The best medicine in the world for old age is seeing the humor in aging. Here are excerpts that my aging cohorts found hilarious and that we have many laughs about at lunch and dinner. I am using factious names because some of these incidents did not happen with present spouses or boyfriends and might prove embarrassing. Joy Joy is the youngest one in our bunch since she is 70 years young. She looks 55 and has a shape that most young women envy. She is an elegant dresser, wears those stupid new cut off shoes with the extremely high heels and has an excellent sense of humor. We decided to all take ballroom dancing to learn the Tango. As always, the men in attendance without partners gravitated toward Joy for their partner. The instructor was no exception, and he chose Joy to help demonstrate a step where the male partner dips his female partner backward. So, Joy was dancing and looking like the dancer she use to be when the dip happened-it threw her hair piece on the floor, her back out, and she was in bed for three weeks on pain killers and muscle relaxers.
