After many years of hard work at the State Department, Will Sullivan and Vivian "Bingy" Bingerman are finally ready to settle down and enjoy a leisurely retirement. But just when the couple have returned to their hometown of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a piece of unsettling news puts their plans on hold.

Jeff Lindsey, a close friend and former colleague, has been found murdered-just as his company was on the verge of a technological breakthrough: a method for covertly applying invisible tattoos on close-range targets. This new project was causing quite the stir in the security services industry...and it seems that Jeff could be the latest casualty in a high-stakes surveillance war.

Shaken by the death of their friend and desperate for answers, Will and Bingy put their contacts at the FBI to work, using every resource at their disposal to try and track down Jeff's killer.
