The Last of the Sourdoughs
Autor Fergus Macroichen Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 aug 2017
The Last of the Sourdoughs is a true Alaskan tale; well, true in the sense that it could have happened. I knew many characters just like the collection of misfits and dreamers who occupy the pages and run wild in the language of this Alaskan romance. Like medieval knights wandering in a land of wild beauty and harsh conditions, with all their human faults exposed, their youth and illusions and spirit of fearlessness guiding the way. Alaska seems to beckon characters who end up at the end of the road because it is the only place where the selves they have invented can live.
The hero of the story is Lance Appolinaris who is in love with D sir e, the daughter of Artie Rex, the owner of the Red Dragon Moving and Transportation Co. Donald Quincy is the sarcastic narrator. A motley crew shows up and moves furniture, but Artie Rex forgets to pay them. To get even with him they get drunk and steal the Red Dragon's money, then head off to Valdez for a wild weekend. The rest is history.
