The Life and Adventures of Morrison of China
Autor Peter Thompson, Robert Macklinen Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 aug 2008
The compelling story of the first Australian to break into Fleet Street’s elite corps of foreign correspondents, this powerful and gripping biography narrates “Chinese Morrison’s” life. A strong sense of courage and devotion to reporting the truth led Morrison to expose the Australian Kanaka slave trade; he worked as a correspondent for the London Times in the decadent and dangerous Chinese capital of Peking; he helped to organize the defense of the legations during the 55-day siege of the Boxer Uprising; he then, as adviser to the fledgling Chinese Government, was a pivotal figure in the fall of the last Emperor and the birth of the Chinese Republic. This fascinating account stands as a testament to his life—one that set the benchmark for correspondents to have courage, truth, and a need for expeditions.
