This is Volume II in the trilogy of The Life and Times of Blackjack Malone. This volume begins November 8, 1861 barely six months into the War Between the States. Jack Malone had received a telegram from Captain Richard Garrett, Captain of Company D of the Texas Rangers on November 6, 1861. The telegram read as follows: "Ranger Jack Malone. Stop. Ranger summons this office. Stop. Immediate response all possible speed. Bring winter gear. Stop. Captain Garrett. Texas Ranger HQ Waco. Stop. End." Blackjack was facing two giants before him. Their names were "UNCERTAINTY" and "WORRY." He did not know what he was to be facing in the coming days, or weeks. "For all I know, I could be called up on active duty in the Confederacy...even if it is against my agreement with the Governor," thought Jack.
