The Long Hard Ride Home

Autor Maryanne Dunne
en Limba Engleză Paperback
They cruise the road, meet new people, and belong to a tight-knit group. Called road warriors at times, much less at others, bikers are some of the best people you can run into. Discover these stories from one of those who travels on two wheels and loves it: Up and Running 1: "She shivered with excitement, fear, and anticipation. The sun was fully up, yet, it failed to warm the earth. The cool morning air whistled past him. His form sheltered her from the brunt of it, but she again shivered, this time from the cold. She hugged him tightly for warmth and comfort. She thought of looking back, but to what, another beating? She felt as if she would vomit as the bile rose in her throat. She tried choking it back down and instead spat. No more. A new life lay ahead of her and she knew in her heart that she would never, ever have to return to Asshole. She turned her face forward and clung desperately to her rescuer as they sped away." Down and Out 2: She walked into the bar, but stopped as soon as the door closed behind her. The bar was pitch black and until her eyes became accustomed, she decided to linger at the entrance. Slowly, figures emerged though the smoky haze and she could see the silhouettes of well over a dozen bikers seated on bar stools at a tall, long table. Their features seemed to form before her eyes and considering that they all were veterans, she was somewhat dismayed by their gnarly appearance. Certainly, they were showered and clean, but tattooed all over, with piercings in unusual places and long beards and baldheads. Surprisingly, they were her age or a bit older. In another time, another life, she could have as easily walked into a pirate's den.
