The Lost Moon

Dr. Nicholas Foster, a once promising linguist, has now been relegated to a teaching position, due to an unfortunate incident in his past. He is approached by a covert group within NASA for work of "national importance." They interest him in some artifacts and snippets of text that haven't been seen for thousands of years. What's even more intriguing is that these were not terrestrial in origin, but were found around a structure on the moon

The shadow group led by Dwight tells him of a structure unlike any they had seen previously was found during the last Apollo mission. The structure was "activated" by actions unknown, and it began transmitting symbols directly into anyone who ventured close to it. The group had spent enormously to construct a base around the structure; to study it, find its purpose and exploit it. But Operations are being threatened because these transmissions are affecting personnel and Foster is asked to help out.

Foster is initially skeptical, but reluctantly agrees to help them out to break out of the monotony of his own existence. From there on, his life takes on an unexpected turn, meeting with the beautiful Commander of the mission, falling in love with her, and journeying with an assortment of people, to the harsh vastness of space, and onto a secret base on the moon.

Meanwhile the group's covert interests that extend overseas into China, find out about a secret mission that will land Chinese astronauts close to their own base. They will do anything to protect the base, and the secret that the group has been holding for the last twenty years, before the other side can get to it. They are willing to risk everything to find out. The two groups collide on the moon with disastrous consequences.

Foster eventually manages to enter the structure, only to realize that it had been a warning, something they had ignored and it changes everything. Some doors weren't meant to be opened....
