About the Author/Illustrator
Jessica Tamar Deutsch is a New York-based visual artist. She earned her BFA from Parsons, where she created her beloved first book, The Illustrated Pirkei Avot. Deutsch is passionate about creating artworks that renew our relationships with ancient texts, and for years she has created paintings inspired by Nachman’s The Lost Princess. She hopes this visual retelling of the story will open readers to new ways of relating with this beloved fable.

Rebbe Nachman (1772–1810) is known as the founder of the Breslov Hasidic movement. Nachman was the great-grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Chassidut, a movement that created a powerful spiritual revival. Nachman’s teachings focused on joy in the face of despair, and personal connection to God, through a personal meditation practice called hitbodedut. He is also widely known for his many magical stories to wake up the heart.
