The Man the Nazis Couldn't Catch

Autor John Laffin
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 14 oct 2004
This book is about a private soldier of the British Army, Leonard Arlington of the Middlesex Regiment. But it is dedicated, with his approval, to those ordinary men and women of northern France and bordering Belgium who defied the Nazis during the Second World War and risked their lives to help British fighting men elude their Nazi pursuers. Len Arlington was captured near Dunkirk but escaped on the march to Germany and then, in civilian clothing, lived as a Frenchman in the Lille region working with the Resistance. The Germans laid elaborate traps for him but he always got away. On one occasion he even 'inspected' a German infantry battalion parading on a French road. He was at liberty for longer than any other British soldier of the war, from just after Dunkirk until the Liberation, and probably saw more German troops than any other Allied soldier. His story is a remarkable one.
