Horrific predicaments and tragedies take their toll on Maria McHale and Joseph Bishop. Furious that the United States has refused to provide assistance following an abrupt climate change that is devastating Europe, an environmental terrorist group plants atomic bombs throughout the United States. The first detonation at a Republican convention kills the president, but also kills Maria's son and mother. Joe becomes President. Craving vengeance, Maria wants Joe to retaliate.
