Professor Saad Al-Rashid: An academic and scholar of considerable standing, Dr Saad is one of the leading experts on the history of desert travel in Abbasid times and is particularly known for his research and excavations at Al-Rabadah, investigating the trails of the early Islamic pilgrims.

He went on to become head of the King Abdul Aziz Library for Scholarship and Research, based in Saudi Arabia.
