Zelman Cowen was vice-chancellor of two universities from 1968–1977, governor-general of Australia from 1977–1982, and chairman of the John Fairfax newspaper group from 1991–1994. He is the author of Federal Jurisdiction in Australia, Individual Liberty and the Law, Isaac Isaacs, and The Private Man.
