The reason why many players have grown to love playing Minecraft with cheats enabled is because they want to unlock different achievements which can be difficult to do. Your character can die in many ways - it can drown, fall to it's death, catch on fire or be attacked by different hostile mobs. Due to this, the Minecraft world can be dangerous for your character. You can also just stick to the creative mode where the risks are less but can be less entertaining.
