The volume is a collection of selected papers presented at an international conference, The Cultures of Post-1989 Central and East Europe organized by the editors -- Steven Tötösy de Zepetnek (Boston & Halle-Wittenberg ), Carmen Andras (Tärqur-tures), and Magdalena Marsovszky (München & Budapest) -- of the volume and held in Tärqu-Mures / Marosvasarhely / Neumarkt, Romania, August 2003, as well as papers submitted for publicatlon in the volume following an open call for papers. The papers in the volume are about various aspects of Central and East European culture after the fall of the Soviet empire and they reflect the profound and ongoing changes in all walks of life of the region.
