Notă biografică

Carlos Aguasaco (Bogota) is one of the central figures of the new Hispanic American Poetry in the US. He is an Associate Professor of Latin American Cultural Studies and Acting Chair in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences of City College of the City University of New York (CUNY). Carlos received his PhD from Stony Brook University and was awarded the prestigious W. Burghardt Turner Doctoral Fellowship by the State University of New York. He also holds an MA in Spanish from CCNY and a BA in Literature from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He has edited eleven literary anthologies and published six books of poems, most recently Poemas del metro de Nueva York (Spanish edition 2014, French edition 2018, Arabic edition 2019), Piedra del Guadalquivir (2017), and Un hombre pasa con su cuerpo al hombro (2019). He has also published a short novel and an academic study of Latin America's prime superhero, El Chapulín Colorado, titled ¡No contaban con mi astucia! México: parodia, nación y sujeto en la serie de El Chapulín Colorado (2014). He is the editor of Transatlantic Gazes: Studies on the Historical Links between Spain and North America (2018). In 2010 he won the India Catalina Prize for best video in the art category at the Cartagena International Film Festival. Carlos is the founder and director of Artepoetica Press, a publishing house specializing in Hispanic American themes and authors. He is also director of The Americas Poetry Festival of New York and coordinator of The Americas Film Festival of New York. He has co-organized international conferences and seminars with institutions like Instituto Franklin (Universidad de Alcal.), Instituto Cervantes, Transatlantic Project (Brown University) and Universidad Tres de Febrero, among others. His poems have been translated into English, French, Portuguese, Romanian, Galician, and Arabic.
