The Origin of Life

Autor Peter Russell-Yarde, MR Peter Russell-Yarde
en Limba Engleză Paperback
The book of Genesis represents the start of a journey learning about who God is and how individuals have not only related to Him, but have also been directly instructed and guided by Him. The creation/evolution issue is a contentious one, yet by a careful study of the text in the initial chapters, and with the addition of an article by an eminent Jewish scientist, this book shows that the two are in complete harmony and are in fact complementary. By thinking 'outside the box' this book sheds light on how we can more easily understand how the evolution of the earth developed according to the creator's plans and how it can be disposed of when the new heavens and the new earth appear. The book of Genesis is filled with characters in the text who may have lived unsophisticated lives compared to today, but it is essential that they are treated as real people having to face real life experiences, decisions and personal problems in a world full of danger, just like people today. Jacob has long been identified as an arch deceiver; yet by careful reading the account of his tussle with Esau over the eldest son's birthright and blessing a completely different man is revealed. The account of the life of Joseph shows how faith is tested. As a rather naive young man he put his brothers' backs up to the point where they decided to dispose of him, only for them to end up with a guilt complex because of his sudden and unexplained disappearance from a deep hole in the ground. The way in which Joseph, who enjoyed great highs and suffered deep lows during the early years of his time as a slave in Egypt, finally met, and was able to deal with, his errant brothers when he was Viceroy of Egypt under the Pharaoh makes fascinating reading. The narrative provides an outstanding example of diplomacy and love that was exceptional given the traumatic experience he had being forced to endure from his life as the son of a very rich tribal leader to become a slave and having to work very hard for little reward. The glorious climax of being reunited with his brothers and particularly his beloved father and younger brother, and, as Viceroy of Egypt, being able to provide them with land in which to settle brings an almost fairy tale end to the book. Genesis is so often neglected yet has so much to teach us. This fascinating study of Genesis, first published as a complete book in around 2004 and in its second edition, is easy to read and understand has much to commend it with one reviewer saying that it made great group study and was very challenging, and another that it was a great help to studying the Bible.
