The Orphan of Farthing Street
Autor Beryl Matthewsen Limba Engleză Paperback – 24 noi 2021
Growing up in poverty on Farthing Street, fourteen-year-old Amy Carter is no stranger to hardship. But when her father is hanged for murder and her mother dies suddenly soon after, orphaned Amy is in danger of being left homeless and unloved.
Until she is taken in by Ben Scott, an artist dazzled by Amy's striking beauty, and his kindly landlady, Mrs Dalton. Amy is welcomed into the house - and the hearts - of the residents of Mrs Dalton's home and she flourishes under their care and devotion. When she grows up and falls in love with handsome doctor, John Sterling, Amy truly seems to have left her past, and its troubles, behind her.
Yet the prospect of war soon threatens the peace Amy has worked so hard to find.
And as a gathering storm grows on England's doorstep, Amy must face a terrible truth: what will life look like once the bombs start to fall . . .
