The Plagues of Kondar: Trials of Kondar

Planet Kondar has a light side that faces the sun and a dark side in eternal night. Lightsiders have never met those on Darkside, known as Oscura. Arien lives in Kattannya on Lightside. When her parents fall through thin ice and drown, as is the custom with orphans, she is sold in the marketplace. The chief seer, Yaddair, purchases her.

Vor is very close to Edge, a grey wall of fog that divides Lightside from Oscura. The Oscurans are suffering from a plague and some fly into Vor, bringing the disease. Desperate to stop the plague, the Vorians employ remedies without success. Yaddair cannot do anything to stop the disease. He decides to quarantine Vor but sends his own children away with his second wife. His first wife dies after she and Arien nurse the sick. Though Arien falls ill, she is one of the few who recover, largely because she has found the remedy. After the quarantine is lifted, she makes a daring decision that will ultimately help all the inhabitants of Kondar.
