Kevin Wells, a Texas high school student, who has a chance encounter with one ot the daughters of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kiran Shah, and thinks he is in love. He knows there is no hope for such a long distance relationship but can't shake the feeling that Kiran is his soul mate. Much to his surprise and delight, however, Kiran is thrust back into his life due to a shocking and dangerous turn of events. It's the year 2000 in Trinidad, the NDC is plotting the overthrow of the government. There's just been a hugh oil discovery near Trinidad and in an effort to gain control over the oil, the U.S. is sponsoring a free trade conference in Dallas. After the conference the Prime Minister checks into Medical City Hospital for some surgery and is joined by his wife and two daughter. Kevin Wells, at the hospital because his mother is having surgery, meets, Kiran Shah, the Prime Minister's eldest daughter and they hit if off and hang out together. After Kevin's mother gets out of surgery he is instructed to go to her room. On the way there he notices a suspicious man going into the Prime Minister's room. When he goes to check it out he interrupts an assassin and ends up getting shot. But he does manage to save Ahmad Shah's life and for that becomes a hero both at home and in Trinidad. Kevin becomes infatuated with Kiran, thinks he's in love and falls into a deep depression when she goes back to Trinidad, fearing he'll never see he again. Then he gets a call from the FBI asking him to go to Trinidad to testify against the assassin. Kevin is elated at the prospect or seeing Kiran again--not realizing the NDC has vowed to kill him.
