As a teenager, her family relocated to the Bronx where she attended Sacred Heart of Mary High School. Graduating early, she entered the CUNY College part-time, while bringing up her daughter, working occasionally to make ends meet. With her quest to write poetry and song lyrics, she has always interacted with the community to create themes, but at the same time was considered an "individualist," someone who was shy and always on the go. "I am so thankful for my husband, Michael Rivera, who creatd the nine illustrations in the book." Yvonne Hampden lived in Yonkers, NY, from 1994 to 2013 working as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She is currently pursuing a full time career in writing. She now resides near Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband, happily married for more than 30 years.
