Don't get sad. Get even. Cartea aceasta mi-a întrecut așteptările. Mi-a permis să o văd pe Rose transformându-se din victimă în călău și iar în victimă. Mi-a permis să înțeleg motivația mamei până într-un anumit punct, să empatizez cu personajul negativ. Patty este acuzată de "Abuz grav asupra copilului" și petrece 5 ani în închisoare. În timpul acesta, fiica ei încearcă să înțeleagă ce înseamnă libertatea, viața de adult, responsabilitățile și relațiile sociale. Dacă reintegrarea după închisoare este grea, la fel este și reintegrarea ca adult capabil să gândească după ce toată comunitatea știe că ai jucat rolul victimei abuzate. Nicio decizie nu pare că îți aparține, orice element minor pare că te destabilizează, iar oamenii continuă să pășească încet pe lângă tine, să nu cumva să contribuie și ei mai mult la haosul din mintea ta. La reîntâlnirea dintre cele două personaje, am avut dubii, întâi în privința fiicei, apoi în privința mamei. Fiecare capitol alternant (perspectiva fiicei, perspectiva mamei) îmi dădea și mai mult de gândit. Faptul că Patty a avut ocazia să dovedească schimbarea odată cu noul membru al familiei, m-a făcut să îmi fie teamă că istoria se repetă. Că oamenii nu se schimbă. Cartea e ca o tablă de șah, unde piesele sunt mutate după ce personajul a gândit trei mișcări în avans. Your move. Iar cititorul e martor la acest joc psihologic și începe să îi suspecteze până pe pioni de manipulare și înșelăciune. Ajută să știți povestea reală din spate, pentru a vă imagina mai ușor chipul lui Rose, dinții stricați și înfățișarea bolnăvicioasă. Ajută să aveți întipărită în minte și imaginea mamei corpolente, care își alină odorul în brațele ei puternice. Pe mine m-a impresionat mult atât povestea reală, cât și această alternativă și vă recomand să o citiți. Este o lectură terifiantă care te va ține înlănțuit în paginile ei.
