While searching for an elusive cannon that John Charles Fremont - the famed gold rush explorer supposedly buried in California - four army officers experienced what can only be described as a horrific, unearthly storm during their first night camping in Monarch Pass. Their tent being the only thing between them and the elements and too scared to sleep, the men stayed awake all night long, listening like captives in a prison as lightning struck tree after tree and thunder so loud it could wake the dead. Once daybreak finally came, the storm relented and the men rushed outside and immediately stopped dead in their tracks...Something was not right, the terrain, their environment, nothing was the same as the day before.
