Parimala V. Rao is a historian and professor of the History of Education at the Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Education in London in 2011 and 2014, and has written extensively on education in colonial India. She is the author of Foundations of Tilak’s Nationalism: Discrimination, Education, and Hindutva (2010, paperback 2011) and Beyond Macaulay: Education in India 1780-1860 (2020, Second Edition 2024). She has also edited a critical volume of New Perspectives in the History of Indian Education (2014, paperback 2016) and co-edited the Encyclopaedia of Modern Asian Educators (Routledge UK, 2021).
