The Sacred Oral Tradition of the Havasupai: As Retold by Elders and Headmen Manakaja and Sinyella 1918-1921

Autor Frank Tikalsky Editat de Frank D. Tikalsky, Catherine A. Euler
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 30 apr 2011
The Havasupai Indians have called the Grand Canyon home for nearly 800 years. This is a book about early Havasupai Indian myths and stories. In 1918-1921 anthropologists Leslie Spier and Erna Gunther hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to learn about, and record, then-living Havasupai culture. In the process they asked two Havasupai leaders and elders for every story they could remember. These 48 stores were translated by native speaker, but for unknown reasons were never published. Spier passed the manuscript on to Havasupai scholar Dr. Robert Euler, who entrusted the stories to his friend and colleague Frank Tikalsky. Tilkalskys manuscript includes the Havasupai myths as Spier and Gunther recorded them almost a century ago.
