Intuitive and tenacious, Wallace Krieg overcomes dyslexia and makes detective after just two years of patrol duty. But before he has time to celebrate, he finds himself in the middle of a nightmare. Suddenly the small town of Santero, New Mexico, seems hell-bent on taking down multimillionaire Adam-including an overambitious assistant DA who won't stop pushing the case forward.

Determined to prove his friend's innocence, Wallace recruits his artist girlfriend, an oversexed geriatric PI, a gourmet caterer, and a semiretired family physician. Together they expose the limits of technology in solving the most ancient of crimes. But they are running out of time.
