The Scope of Consent

Autor Tom Dougherty
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 30 iun 2021
The scope of someone's consent is the range of actions that they permit by giving consent. The Scope of Consent investigates the under-explored question of which normative principle governs the scope of consent. To answer this question, the book's investigation involves taking a stance on what constitutes consent. By appealing to the idea that someone can justify their behaviour by appealing to another person's consent, Dougherty defends the view that consent consists in behaviour that expresses a consent-giver's will for how a consent-receiver behaves. The ultimate conclusion of the book is that the scope of consent is determined by certain evidence that bears on the appropriate interpretation of the consent.

Recenzii

Dougherty presented an exceptionally well-written, rich, and original book on the scope of consent. Among its various strengths, the book not only advances a novel view on the scope of consent but also creates many avenues for further research. Dougherty's eminent work on the ethics of consent has found another important expression.
Rich and rewarding...it is essential reading for anyone who wants to learn about or contribute to future debates concerning the ethics of consent.
The Scope of Consent is an impressive and tightly argued text, which will serve as essential reading on the topic. I recommend this book to anyone interested in consent and its scope.
