Against a background of a dirt poor existence in rural Arkansas in the early 1940's, Justin Goodfellow must flee the death of his wife. Abandoning his son, fate places an apparant solution to his problems in front of him. His life then becomes one of murder and deceit, until, at last indicted for murder, his past catches him up.
