Recenzii
Thomas service up a rich feast of themes and instances. If on occasion we could wish that one of two examples might stand in place of a dozen or more, the profusion here remains impressive and is set out in schematic fashion.
This is a book which answers many questions, and is surely destined to become one of the definitive works in the field for many years to come ... With this book, Thomas presents a strong case in support of his belief 'much more research on the secular clergy is needed for an adequate understanding of medieval history'; happily, he has produced a volume which will surely inspire much of that research.
This is an important, indeed impressive, book, and richer than a short review can convey. It will be a touchstone for a long time.
This is an ambitious, well written and carefully argued book ... an excellent piece of scholarship
