Kristin Myles was brought up in Oklahoma Territory. Her mother diligently taught Kristin how to read and write. Their passion was the history of their nation as they gathered what ever information they could at the time. Her father was a well known doctor in the area. As the civil war invaded Oklahoma, Dr. Myles made up his mind to treat anyone in need of help who happened to knock on his door. One evening renegade soldiers attacked the Myles property destroying what they could on the outside and setting fire to the cabin. Choking in a smoke filled room, Dr. Myles found a way of escape for his daughter. As he and his wife held off the soldiers with their guns while the cabin burned around them, Kristin made her way into the wooded area behind the home to hide in the darkness of the night.
