The Shendoa army has been defeated and all the surviving soldiers flee to every quarter in hopes of survival. Kaing has made his way to the Keep of Baladone to find his brother has been imprisoned. Promising to help free him, Kaing goes on a quest to raise an army strong enough to free his brother and countrymen. Kaing begins his epic journey by calling on the Maunths, and the Centurion Beasts of the swamps, only to be directed further south to seek the aid of other individuals that he is promised will help him in his quest.
