Recenzii

Sherry Norfolk, Jane Stenson, and Diane Williams have put together a collection of 48 classroom activities submitted by almost as many storytellers. Some are submitted by teachers, some by professional storytellers. The activities are arranged by grade level and the authors note national standards which can be met through each activity. Many ideas here for expanding the story into a classroom activity.
[P]rofessional storytellers and K-8 teachers contribute suggestions on how to implement strategies that complement instructional units as well as satisfy national educational standards. Lesson objectives are explained in detail as well as the best methods for assessing student comprehension of a story. Activities emphasize student communication and multiple intelligences..A valuable bibliography of pertinent resources is located at the end of this book. The Storytelling Classroom would be a worthwhile purchase for educators who teach subject content through stories. Recommended.
Arranging presentation by grade level from kindergarten up through grade eight, the four chapters in this teaching resource collect lesson plans and activities based around stories for teaching language arts, science, math, and social studies. The 48 contributions identify national standards met and provide a materials list, detailed instructions, assessment ideas, and references.
