The Times 2 Crossword was created in its current form in 1993. It is a defintion-only puzzle (with none of the cryptic clues of the main Times Crossword) ¿ but it does use a wide vocabularly and requires a reasonable level of general knowledge. The clues are made as full as possible to help the solver complete the puzzle.
