'The Trial: A First-Person Account' tells the true story of a criminal trial against Bernard F., an educator and child psychologist who for reasons that remained for months hidden to him was imprisoned after having worked with small children in several families as a babysitter and house teacher. The story illustrates what the essential elements are of nurturant and permissive education that focuses on the tactile stimulation of infants, toddlers and generally, small children under six years of age, through natural naked corps a corps between child and caretaker, in the form of co-sleeping, shared baths and gentle massage and oiling of the child's whole body, including his or her genitals. What hits the eye in this case is that this particular professional approach was realized in a rather amateurish manner, without qualified professional backup, research and preparation of the parents involved, in such an improvised manner that most people including law enforcement agents felt puzzled, if not angered, and this so much the more as the story plays in a country and region that is highly conservative and where methods of that kind in early child care are even today not to be found. The story, besides the interesting revelations from inside the prison life illustrates that new, daring and unusual educational approaches should always be properly communicated and tested, before they are applied professionally, and that all people involved in the educational approach-especially parents-should be properly informed before-hand.
