The Tudors: History of a Dynasty

Autor David Loades
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 7 mar 2012
David Loades provides a masterful overview of this formative period of British history.  Exploring the reign of each monarch within the framework of the dynasty, he unpacks the key questions surrounding the monarchy;  the relationship between church and the state, development of government, war and foreign policy, the question of Ireland and the issue of succession in Tudor politics. Loades considers the recent scholarship on the dynasty as a whole, paying particular attention to Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and Mary Tudor. He also considers how recent revisionist history asks new questions of their political and personal lives. This places our understanding of the dynasty as a whole in a new light.

Recenzii

...[ the book] will prove a valuable text for the reader wishing to study the period, rather than immersing themselves merely in the personalities and events of the age. (4.5 Stars)
Author David Loades had an article on the topic of the book feature in the Big Issue in the North, in which the book was mentioned.
It is difficult to imagine anyone writing a better account of the marital histories of Mary and Elizabeth within so brief a compass; specialists can only envy the command Loades demonstrates in his account of trade and exploration. [H]is supple prose and analytical skill make Loades the best guide for those beginning to explore the Tudor age.
