Notă biografică
Nan McNutt, an American of British ancestry, grew up on the island of Pohnpei in Micronesia. Her introduction to Native American people and culture was at the University of Washington, where she received her Masters in Education (1979). Nan has developed instructional materials for Native American communities and schools and leads workshops for teachers in partnership with educators and artists.

"Tell us about the first basket you sold, Kaya," asks Josephine. She and Ralph know the story, but they both love to hear it over and over.
"Oh, yes! I was about ten years old," Kaya chuckles. "That basket ws a tqayas (T kye yahs). Really looked good, too. I made it with cattail leaves, bear-grass, and cedar bark. And I wined in a design, those little woolly dogs. I made them with cedar bark dyed black."
