This book constitutes the first academic effort after the September 11, 2001 brutal attacks to study the UK’s legal experience and provides lessons for other democracies combating terrorism at home and abroad. Material included in the volume consists of a large body of documents such as the Prime Minister’s statement concerning al-Qaida; the Terrorism Act 2000; the Anti-Terrorism Crime and Security Act 2001; the Human Rights Act of 1998; the Treaty of Maastricht; and numerous other court cases (e.g. the bombing of Pan Am 103). Important cases reproduced include Al Magrahi, Kebeline, and Chahal.

Prof. Yonah Alexander is a Senior Fellow and Director, International Center for Terrorism Studies, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, as well as Director, Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies and Co-Director, Inter-University Center for Legal Studies. He has published over 90 books in the field of terrorism and international affairs and is founding editor of Terrorism: An International Journal.
Prof. Edgar H. Brenner is Co-Director of the Inter-University Center for Legal Studies in Washington, DC. He is also Legal Counsel to the Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies and co-editor (with Prof. Alexander) of a four-volume set on Legal Aspects of Terrorism in the United States; Federal Legal Responses to Terrorism; and Terrorism and the Law. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and a graduate of Yale Law School.
Prof. Edgar H. Brenner is Co-Director of the Inter-University Center for Legal Studies in Washington, DC.
