Since emigrating from Uruguay to New York years ago, Ursula and Felipe Webber have built a comfortable life for themselves. Their successful real estate business allowed them to live the American dream complete with a ranch-style house on a quiet cul-de-sac in which to raise their daughter.

But they have socially isolated themselves in midlife, torn between enduring love for each other and a blind, dangerous obsession with the past. A lively, elderly santera, Maria Anna Cienfuegos, suddenly realizes that her mission is to save the couple from the evil spirit that threatens them.
