The Variorum Edition of the Poetry of John Donne – The Holy Sonnets: The Variorum Edition of the Poetry of John Donne

Autor John Donne, Gary A. Stringer, Paul A. Parrish
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 30 noi 2005
This is the 4th volume of The Variorum Edition of the Poetry of John Donne to appear. This volume presents a newly edited critical text of the Holy Sonnets and a comprehensive digest of the critical-scholarly commentary on them from Donne’s time through 1995. The editors identify and print both an earlier and a revised authorial sequence of sonnets, as well as presenting the scribal collection—which contains unique authorial versions of several of the sonnets—inscribed by Donne’s friend Rowland Woodward in the Westmoreland manuscript. Gary A. Stringer is visiting professor of English at Texas A & M University. Editor of volumes 4-9 of Explorations in Renaissance Culture and New Essays on Donne, he is a former chair of the Committee on Scholarly Editions of the Modern Language Association.Paul A. Parrish is Regents Professor and Head of the Department of English at Texas A & M University, author of Richard Crashaw, and editor of Celebration: Introduction to Literature.

Recenzii

Praise for previous volumes:“This variorum edition will be the basis of all future Donne scholarship.” —Chronique" . . . it is immensely satisfying to see the product of such an intense concern, by so many scholars over so many years, to restore Donne's poetry to the form nearest his last corrections, gradually reaching fruition. The Songs and Sonets are eagerly awaited."--TIMES LITERARY SUPPLEMENT, Jan 25 2008
