"The Wellman Stories" tells of two women chiropractors, Margaret and Karen, life partners, wanting to live with integrity. In 1986, we happen into a small Iowa town called Wellman, just thirty-five minutes from Iowa City, home to the University of Iowa. Two themes make up the stories: Heroes take a Journey; Strangers Come to Town. They are welcomed, they commit, they succeed, and then they are rejected. Over time we discover that the idealized small town has been crushed by the 1980s farm crisis and is currently ruled by industrial agriculture. We experience the growing influences of conservative churches and media. The Wellman Stories are about the characters left to inhabit Wellman and about our dedication to become experts in our fields.
