Captain Savage rushed to the rail, and was soon busily engaged in looking at the wonderful sea-creature Homer Woddle declared had sunk the ship in which he had been sailing.
The crew gathered around the Captain with much agitation. Seamen are at all times superstitious. Never having heard of such a strange monster, they fancied its appearance boded no good at all.
The monster, perfectly inert up to this time, suddenly threw out a marvelous light -- illuminating the depths of the ocean!
