This workbook is an opportunity for self-transformation and freedom from the grip of the culture of violence that has been programmed into us from birth. Because we have been deeply conditioned to defend our sense of security by thinking in violent ways and to be complicit with others who are violent, we unwittingly make mistakes - sometimes very harmful mistakes. The practical, tangible, do-able and easily understood practices presented help us remove the barriers to connection, a sense of belonging and nonviolent empowerment. The self-examination process takes us through individually written answers to powerful questions, followed by self-disclosure in a regular meeting of trusted friends. Although this work may be done in solitude, the mutual support of a group provides encouragement and accountability. The hard work of love requires us to generate the willingness to be honest with ourselves about what we are doing to ourselves, to be patient with both ourselves and others, and above all else to seek connection when there appears to be none.
