We have few depictions of secluded Japanese and Native American life in the late 19th and early 20th century but here is a unique collection of an artist who photographed and painted the people with whom he lived. The people of the Taos Pueblo clearly accepted an artist in their midst and this work offers an unexpected album of the land and their culture. The notes and letters of the artist broaden this unique portrait.
