Although the action in this middle book of this trilogy follows the events of the first book, it's set on a completely different planet with two different main characters. However, the connection between the events become apparent by the end of the book and promise to continue into the final novel of the trilogy. On the planet Avon, terraforming is taking much longer than it should and the local colonists, forced to live in primitive conditions, believe something is holding it back. Some of them have formed a rebel group, intending to take over the military base and take back control of the planet. Flynn is a gentle, caring member of the rebels but wants peace rather than more fighting. When he crosses paths with hard nosed military Captain Lee Chase they initially clash, but eventually come together in an attraction-of-opposites romance and end up working together to find out what is wrong with Avon. I didn't love this quite as much as Tarver and Lilac's story in the first novel but it was a fun read and I'm now look forward to the concluding episode of this trilogy.
