On October 10, 1774 -Six months before the 'shots heard around the world' were fired at Lexington and Concord, an army of rugged colonial militiamen led by Colonel Andrew Lewis met and defeated the combined forces of the American Indian Nations commanded by Shawnee Chief Cornstalk at the Battle of Point Pleasant at the junction of the Kanawha and Ohio Rivers. If the Indians had claimed the victory, they may have made an alliance with the British during the American Revolutionary War, which could have changed the outcome of the conflict and altered the history of the world. Instead, the American militia demonstrated their military potential and strengthened their bid for independence from England. 'Thomas McClung at the Battle of Point Pleasant' is an historical account of frontiersman Thomas McClung and his heroism and sacrifice during what has come to be known as the first battle of the Revolutionary War.
