There are no do-overs with parenting. You've got one chance to do this right and you can't recover the time you've lost or make up for the mistakes you've already made. However, this is the time to take inventory of where you are now and discover what opportunities you have to become the parent that you should be. Think about that for a moment. If you were the parent that you SHOULD be, what would that look like? What would you be like? Write that down. This is what you need to strive for. We can't do anything about what you've been taught either by your own parents or those who looked after you but you CAN learn new traits and skills to give YOUR child the foundation they should have going into adulthood.
