A liberal American psychiatrist joins the Army after the 9/11 attacks, trying to 'do the right thing' by taking care of the young soldiers who are in the front lines of the fighting. Through four swirling tours of Iraq, he is profoundly touched by, and learns life lessons from, his soldier patients, as well as the Iraqi civilians that he interacts with.
