In August 1967 a young man was killed whilst carrying arms of war on behalf of an organisation known as UmKhonto We Sizwe, an army whose inaugural Paramount Chief was Nelson Mandela. This young man was the first person to die whilst carrying arms of war for the struggle and his body lies in an unknown pauper's grave somewhere in Zimbabwe. His death was the trigger that inspired the creation of this work which is written to record the suffering of ordinary folk in this transition of political power. Whilst leaders are held in high esteem, we disremember the horrors of conflict and the pain of those who suffer for political ideology. Although TOK TOKKIE TOKOLOSH is complete fiction, it is based on historical facts that bubbled out of that time and place in history. As insurrectionary forces gather throughout southern Africa, every character has uniquely painful, threatening and tragic choices to make.
