Torbant Mahl is a wizard who was tutored at the fabled Chinese island of Mount Penglai, under the personal direction of the powerful sorcerer, Anqi Sheng. Now back in Britain he fills his days curing sick magical people and sick magical animals - like Elton a farting dragon. More than a doctor and a vet, he is a talented and extremely powerful wizard - a husband and a father. Antonia, his eldest daughter assists him on his visits, Magdalena, Mags, stays home and receives tuition from a hired witch on all things magical. Sonia, his wife used to be a vampire. She still has a her fangs and the ability to change into a bat but she can't perform magic. Mags enchants a book in an attempt to find a 'lost' wizard or witch in the 'clotters, ' the non-magical world and is successful. Through the enchanted book she finds Zoe a thirteen year old girl whose mother is dying from cancer. Mags pleads to her father to help. This is only the beginning because there is much more to Mags. Her father is told that she has deep magic, strong and ancient. Mags is entrusted into the care of Ophir-Pel, guardian and keeper of the Pool of Knowing. This witch is certain that Mags can see into the pool, something very few are able to do - as if this wasn't enough - Ophir-Pel has to take Mags to the Isle of Staffa, to Fingal's Cave to release her inner magical creature. The creature that Mags releases is of the rarest kind and places Mags in danger - from creatures like the vampire snatchers and the storm-horseman. Just what is this creature that Mags has and why does Robert, the Mahl's pet dragon, morph into savage attack mode to protect his family. These questions will be answered in this, the first in a series of Torbant Mahl, wizard adventures.
