We have succeeded, at a tremendous cost in human suffering, in preventing the imposition of a totalitarian new order upon the world. Can labor and management free themselves from the prejudices of an era that is now dead? Are we justified in believing the democratic order capable of securing and maintaining the welfare of the individual and society as a whole? Can democracy resolve the conflict between nationalistic claims on the one hand and conditions essential for economic stability and efficiency on the other?
